Hello DC fans! Just thought I'd take a moment to tell you a little about myself. I'm a married stay at home mom to a beautiful 3 y.o. girl, most of my friends know as Munchkin. I'm obsessed with very few things, but Deadliest Catch and the Time Bandit top that list. (When I say obsessed, I mean that in the best possible way...not in the boil a bunny on the stove kind of way!) I'm also a huge hockey fan (I've been playing since I was young) so if you see OUhockeyfan anywhere, that's me!
I've met so many wonderful friends thanks to the Time Bandit Captains and Deadliest Catch ~ The Banditas are the Best!
I gravitated toward the Time Bandit mostly because of the crews down to earth personalities. They just seem like a group of real guys that would be a blast to hang out with, and they really care about their friends and family. The kind of guys you could just shoot the sh*# with at a bar for hours on end. Seeing the lengths the Hillstrands go to take care of not only their crew but the people they come in contat with on a regular basis only reinforced the fact that I've picked the best boat to show my allegiance to.
MY DEADLIEST CATCH FAVES
Captain(s):
Andy Hillstrand!!!
Followed in a close second by his brothers Neal and Johnathan!
The entire crew of the F/V Time Bandit ~Why mess with the rest when you can have the best?
Shea Long, especially, because as all the Banditas know, he's "Shea The Amazing!" (Kidding Shea, you know we love ya!)
Of course there's also our main man Neal Hillstrand (you need more camera time hon!), Russ Newberry (show that purty smile!), Eddie Uwekoolani (you left Hawaii for THIS?!), and Scott Hillstrand (can the boat handle that many Hillstrands on board?)
Boat:
F/V Time Bandit
Captain Quote(s):
"We'd rather be lucky than good any day!" --Captain Johnathan Hillstrand
"Cowboy up and rodeo wrap that baby!" Captain Andy Hillstrand
"I feel like a one legged man in an a$$ kicking contest" Captain Phil Harris
"It just might go to show that with this geriatric crew that old age and treachery may out fox youth and skill if there are any prizes out here." Captain Larry Hendricks
Crab Dish:
1st--Crab must be Alaskan Crab ~None of that stuff from Russia sold in all of the mega-marts.
2nd--I live in Ohio so any crab I have is going to be pre-cooked and flash frozen. I prefer mine to be whole, intact crab legs. Why muss it up with other ingredients. All I need is a fork and some clarified butter, perhaps.
Again, my motto....Why mess with the rest when you can have the best?
The Opening to Every episode...gotta love Dead or Alive!!!
The Josh White Rescue...it shows what lengths these guys go to for their jobs and to take care of others. True Heroes one and All!
The Time Bandit in the Ice Pack...I was literally sitting on my knees a foot away from the TV biting my nails.
Andy's Moonwalk and Johns Crab Jig! LOL (Yeah I know it's more than 3, but you get excited when your on the crab!)
Top 3 people I'd love to fish with (living, dead, celebrity or not):
Captain Andy Hillstrand
Captain Johnathan Hillstrand
I hear there was this Jesus guy who could do this trick with multiplying fish. I wonder if it would work with crab?! He'd probably come in handy with that walking on water thing as well.
Top Superstitions I believe in:
Ok, let's see there's always the left handed Swedish circle, but that's hard to do unless you're in the water. I'm a hockey fan so I'll go with not changing your socks while you're on a winning streak, or not shaving certain body parts while you're on a hot streak. Once you find something that works for you GO WITH IT! I'm all about superstitions. Don't step on a crack, you'll break your mothers back. Only pick up a heads up penny (I'm not sure on that one; I'm broke I'll pick up any money I find). Horseshoes. Four-leaf clovers. Crossing fingers. Crab jigs, moon walks... let's try it all!
There's only ONE superstition of the Hillstrands I'd like to suggest changing, "No women on board during crab season!" Although I understand their thinking. Andy says, "Guys usually just start fighting over the girls. You're at sea for 3 months, and the captain's got his wife there and is probably getting some lovin', and the rest of the crew gets jealous."
The latest Deadliest Catch Fashions (no self respecting DC fan should be without)
#1.) As Modeled By Mike Rowe
#2.) No Bering Sea Fisherman (nor obsessive DC fan) should be without it!
#3.) tied with There's no more perfect pair for a Bandita!
LET'S BE HONEST...
Q. Do you think you have what it takes to be a Deadliest Catch fisherman?
A. Abso-freaking-lutely NOT. Those guys are some driven, work-a-holics who commit themselves fully to the job they do. Well, that and I can't swim, so that might be an issue. I much prefer my water to be frozen, a la hockey rink style!! I mean seriously...have you seen the show? Have you seen the size of those WAVES? Big, big, big!!! That's an understatement. Then there's the lack of sleep. Um, no. I need my sleep. You don't want to see me without sleep. Not to mention, IT IS FREAKING COLD THERE!
I can't give enough kudos to the fishermen up there, whether they are featured on the show or not. I could never do what they do.
Also, big kudos to the Coast Guard for being there at the worst of times to put their lives at risk to save others.

It'd be great to hear how long people have been fans, how you get through the 'off season', which boat is your favorite and why, or if you're lucky enough to have met the captains and crew!

I stumbeled across the show one day 2 years ago when they were running a marathon of season 1. I worked one summer on a lobster boat off of Long Island NY... and i thought those guys were tough. Can't get enough of the show. Just got on the Wiki site. Eagerly anticipating next weeks opener. Some of the captains remind me of friends I have. So it's like watching my brothers on TV. I'm with Laura on the 3 way favorite tie. TB, CM and NW. Each Capt has qualities that I can relate to. Enjoy
