Crab Count:
SYNOPSIS: It's the pre-dawn hours of Oct. 17th, and the boats of the king crab fishing fleet are enjoying rare, calm weather on the Bering Sea. Capt. Eric of the Rollo knows that out here you don't sleep through good weather. He wakes his crew to begin dropping their first pots of the season. Though the weather is cooperating momentarily, Capt. Sig of the Northwestern receives word of an impending storm and must decide whether to run or fish. The decision is not as difficult for the captain of the Cornelia Marie. With a head gasket blown, Phil and his crew are limping back to Dutch Harbor on one engine for repairs, but the storm is nipping at their heels. Getting caught one engine down in this squall is a recipe for disaster. It is a different story on the Time Bandit. Capt. Jonathan won't let the weather alter his plans; he has decided to fish through the monster, which is predicted to bring with it 50-mph winds and 30-foot seas. Sig has finally come to a decision: he will steam to the island of Amak 60 miles away and wait out the storm. For the captains and crew of the Rollo and the Time Bandit, who decided to risk it, the next 12 hours will test their skill and their luck as king crab fishermen on the deadly Bering Sea.
