SYNOPSIS: Alaskan king crab -- A rogue wave has knocked the Aleutian Ballad on its side. Power is down and the engines are dead. After a wild scramble in the dark, the crew regains power and the boat rights itself -- a narrow brush with death on the Bering Sea. Elsewhere on the crab grounds, the Time Bandit, Maverick and Rollo are fishing hard in rough weather and high seas. These boys are tired, but they see the light at the end of the tunnel as they head toward their final strings of pots.
On the Northwestern, Sig and his crew are also feeling the effects of fishing hard for two weeks, but they're managing to stay in good spirits by keeping things light. They pull one of the Cornelia Marie's pots, hang a pair of Sig's underwear inside, and weld the door shut. Laughter abounds as the Cornelia Marie pot sinks back to the ocean floor. When Capt. Phil Harris and the Cornelia Marie crew pull the pot, revenge is the only thing on their minds. They find one of Sig's pots, stuff it full of garbage, and weld a steel rod onto the line. After Sig and his crew pull the pot, everyone on both boats shares a good laugh and then it's back to the fishing.
Maverick deck boss Blake Painter is still sulking from Capt. Rick's decision to not hand the wheel over after the boat's first offload. Blake's mood brightens when Rick agrees to swap out with Blake and work the deck for the Maverick's final pots. Back on the Cornelia Marie, greenhorn Jake is also in good spirits after finding out that he'll be allowed to take wheel watch for the upcoming opilio season, a sure sign that he's done a good job and earned the respect of his father, Capt. Phil Harris.
As final pots are pulled and holds are sealed shut, the season comes to a close for our five boats. This has been the longest and roughest king crab season in years, and the men of the Cornelia Marie, Maverick, Northwestern, Rollo and Time Bandit are looking forward to a nice long rest. But there is no rest for the weary, as the next season already looms on the horizon with a cold winter vengeance.
