Sig is the leader .
Jun 20 2008, 8:46 PM EDT
In my opinion, Sig is a natural leader i this profession. Perhaps, and probably, it comes from his strong, long, background growing up in a family of fisherman. He keeps his cool most of the time & commands respect without hooting and holloring like others. He makes this series what it is. 12  out of 15 found this valuable. Do you?

He started very young yes. He's a class act. I did love it though when he slammed his fist down and bellowed: "I want a crab count and I want it NOW!!!!!" Every time I see that I can't help but yell with him. And he doesn't need to yell often. Edgar handles things on deck for the most part, and Sig is that guiding light sitting in the wheel house. Long live the Hansens and Northwestern. And he's not a consultant for nothin. 13  out of 15 found this valuable. Do you?

Yes. the "fist was good, but the scene I will not forget is when he was missing his family and was thinking of the toll his profession took, and there were tears in his eye. That was really honorable on hi part to let us see him when he was having a vulnerable minute. His wife and children are very lucky to have him. May he always safely return home to them. Sajsam

Amen to that. You can tell that both he AND Edgar love their families very much. I was watching an older episode the other day that I hadn't seen and it showed all the boats docking, and Edgar holding his baby, and Sig scooping up his kids and then walkin away with his beautiful wife. If only more men were as dedicated and loving as the DC captains. Lucky indeed!!!!!! May they ALL always return safely.

Amen to that xena; that's what gives the show so much class, and I'll always watch DC as long as it's on the air. Sajsam

All of the boats , cap'ns and crews are great, but the Northwestern is the gem in my book. With a cap like Sig and a crew boss like Edgar, any man should consider himself honored to be chosen to work with them. Something Matt AND jake should both think about. I live near Seattle, and I hope to catch them down on the waterfront sometime. I don't drink, so I won't catch them in a bar. Maybe at a Mariners game. Sig and John were sighted at a game at the start of baseball season, in Safeco field. (<: 4  out of 6 found this valuable. Do you?

BOO YA! Sig is in control! you're right though, he doesn't really need to yell much. He trusts his crew (and his brother) to do things right. 6  out of 8 found this valuable. Do you?

Hell for me it's a toss up: As you prolly know my heart belongs to Phil, but Edgar and the Northwestern and John and the Time Bandit are runnin a close second. If ya live near Seatlle newbiegirl you might just catch sight of Sig and Edgar. If so please post some pix!!!!!!!! And yea Sig doesn't yell much at all. Edgar is the bomb for deck bosses. He's up there with Murray Gamrath and Russ Newberry. 3  out of 4 found this valuable. Do you?

Hey, newbiegirl, you got that right. I can imagine any young man being so proud to be chosen to work on the "Northwestern", that he would check his attitude at the door and keep his mouth shut and FISH. Sajsam 2  out of 3 found this valuable. Do you?

Hell if he didn't check his attitude and feelings at the door he'd be shown it. Just shut up and FISH. And I want that crab count NOW!!!!!!!

Cod? Oh ROL. Make that a Soggy Herring. A tin of Altoids, and Eddie boy is good to go. He's so funny when he does that herring thing. Remember when Matt did it. I do give him credit for doing the traditional good luck Hansen style.

Love your screen name. It projects the feelings of everyone on this thread. Naw Sig doesn't need to yell much at all. All he has to do is send a look with those piercing eyes. Hell with Edgar on deck there's no chance of things gettin out of hand. Yea that spat with Jake and Matt, but Edgar got things under control quickly, and then Sig finished it in the galley. Edgar talked to both guys and got both sides of the story, then passed it on to Sig. Excellent job!!!!!!

It seems to me that some of these deckhands think they are on camera and want to put on a show for the folks. Well, for the most part, they should realize that they need Sig, more than he needs them. Shut up and Fish. Sajsam 1  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

No Cod od Soggy Herring! A JELLYFISH WITH XXXX HOT HABENERO SAUCE! If he thinks he's hot now, eat that and the sun would feel like a snowball. Remember what I said about Edgar's preferences?

I bet it's a real trip for his wife to prepare meals for him (with such strange delicacies as cod, herring, jellyfish, habanera sauce), she has got to get triple kudoos from us fans who love Edgar so much.Sajsam

You can't serve jellyfish with XXXXhot habanero sauce, it would kill him.

Thanks BWSC for that info. Here in Texas the habenero sauce is enough to kill some people. As for the jellyfish, have no experience, however my friend got stung by one while swimming in Hawaii a few years back.OUCH. Sajsam
